This is a list of the blogposts that I most often need to reference. Posting this list here is mostly a convenience for me, but you may find an enjoyable read while perusing the Referentium.
Interesting Systems and Mechanics
- Domain-Level Locks and Keys by Spiceomancy. A process to make your game a Metroidvania with some excellent examples.
- Four Devastating Judgements by Whose Measure Could Not Take. A biblical GLOG hack based around the number four. I use it for its horse rules and as a general framework for a flavorful ruleset.
- Four Types of Old Magick by Sundered Shields and Silver Shillings. Four mythic, powerful magics (Raven, Ash, Moon, Glass) and three abilities for each.
Interesting Locations, Adventures, and Encounters
- Alignments by Archons March On. Each of the nine alignments gets a guiding virtue, a home plane, an esoteric language, and a corresponding planar creature. A comprehensive reimagining of the boring outer planes.
- Fort Bitterfruit by Whose Measure God Could Not Take. A fun self-contained location themed around bears.
Interesting Character Options
- 100 OSR Class Pyramid by The Manse. A list of 100 generic OSR fantasy classes and their abilities.
- Fox Royalty by hexculture. Flavorful reskin of the illusionist class with spells-as-foxes.
- Swordslave by Gorgo Mormo. A fighter chosen by an ancient magic weapon.
Interesting Settings and Campaigns
- A locomotive vision by Sundered Shields and Silver Shillings. The world is a giant train with two directions, engineward and coldward.
- On the Origin of Gods, Monsters, Magic, and More by Quarterling's Corner. Includes soul magic, wizards, demons, and Great Old Ones. The post I most often reference.
- The Great Discape by Throne of Salt. Planescape + the four humors. The very first OSR post I ever read.
Interesting Monsters and Characters
- A Recipe for Monsters by Incunabuli. Monsters are flesh-crafted guardians created by ancient sorcerers. Includes examples such as pigmen and manticores.
- Dragons are murderhobos by Spiceomancy. Dragons interact not just with the characters, but the players.
- The Courts of the Álfar by Throne of Salt. Strange and cruel enemies. Elves-as-archfae.
- The Elemental Evils by Archons March On. Original takes on the elemental evils.
